Welsh Data Science Graduate Programme


Unique to Wales, this innovative new programme is managed by the Welsh Contact Centre Forum and delivered by global employers and academia in partnership with the Office of National Statistics. The programme is part funded by the European Social Fund.

Our collective vision is to create a best in class, graduate development programme in data science skills which will create and retain a high calibre talent base in the region.

Participating employers include (click for further details) ActiveQuote, Admiral Group, Atradius, Centrica, GoCompare, Henry Howard Finance, Hodge Bank, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, MotoNovo Finance, Optimum Credit and Principality Building Society, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Talent Ticker.

Over two years, the Programme will provide highly valuable work experience through three industry placements rotating across three different participating employers. Typical job roles include Statistical Modeller, Data Engineer, Quantitative Analyst, Credit Risk Analyst, Pricing Analyst, and Predictive Modeller/Decision Science.

During these placements, you will be trained and work with team colleagues on real world business problems and projects. This will give you a unique insight into different business types, cultures and methods of working to develop a fully rounded skill set in data science, and enable you to make a more informed choice regarding your future career.

Through the placements, academic study and project work, you will develop key skills in the following areas:

– Commercial Awareness
– Professional Communication
– Data Science Fundamentals
– R, Python and SAS
– Data Analytics and Problem Solving
– Machine Learning and AI
– Data Mining, Management and Engineering

Alongside structured training and development whilst having a mentor, you will study for a part-time, fully funded MSc in Applied Data Science. The qualification is designed to enable and reinforce application of knowledge through work-based projects and final research project.

The programme builds upon the success of the Welsh Financial Services Graduate Programme which has recruited over 105 graduates to date and enabled 98% of graduates to secure permanent roles in their chosen career path and preferred employer.

The project is partly funded by the European Social Fund.
