Deloitte Case Study: Stephanie Davies

Name: Stephanie Davies
Job title: Associate
Service line: Deloitte Propel
Location: Cardiff
Business unit: Audit and Assurance

What do you do?

I work in Deloitte Propel as part of the Delivery Team, who are focused on supporting ambitious and fast-growth startups and SMEs using cloud accounting software.

I directly support clients on their day-to-day bookkeeping and with any accounting queries they have. This includes reconciling their bank account, processing receipts, preparing quarterly reporting management packs, VAT returns and statutory accounts.

How did you get here?

I joined the Cardiff Delivery Centre on an entry-level apprenticeship, in September 2016, after my A-Levels. I knew I wanted to do an apprenticeship, so that I could get a head start on my career and not have the university debt. I also liked the idea of a large firm with many opportunities to grow my career.

After completing my entry-level apprenticeship, I moved on to the higher level, ‘BrightStart’, to begin a career in accounting. I worked in Corporate Audit for 16 months, but decided that Audit wasn’t for me and so I joined Deloitte Propel in February 2019, where I help smaller, developing businesses. Here I can develop my accounting knowledge by working directly on a company’s accounts and am also supported in studying towards an accounting qualification.

What are the best things about your job?

I enjoy the day-to-day variety in my role; I’m always learning new things and getting an insight into different clients across different industries. I enjoy working directly with clients, especially as most are in the early days of starting their business and watching them grow.

I also like the people, who are all sociable and friendly. I still feel comfortable asking any questions, as I’m learning on the job. There are also many networking opportunities within Deloitte, so you can continually meet new people in other departments and build your network.

What’s your most memorable moment?

My greatest achievement at Deloitte, so far, was winning Apprentice of the Year at the Welsh Contact Centre Awards in March 2018, after completing my entry level apprenticeship in the Engagement Support Centre (ESC).
